Yes, I know this is a song now and I might even get sued. But this small sentence is something really deep which we do a lot each day we live. We are letting go. This concept of letting go is an essential part of evolution. And this concept is often misunderstood. I will explain more of this as I think that if we earthlings want to survive we need this letting go.
Release and growth
To grow as a person or as a group we need to improve ourselves. To do this we need to transform certain parts of ourselves into better parts. For example: Grief into freedom. This example is missing one step, the actual road to the freedom of a mind is: Bad thought - nothing - Good thought. the part between bad and nothing is called release, and the part between nothing and good is called growth. I have made another example some time ago with time into freedom (or balance).
Letting go of something you need
Now there is a strange thing to the concept of letting go. If we could just let go of all bad thoughts without any drawbacks, we would already have done it. The problem is that in some cases we are afraid to let something go. In the example of time we are afraid to lose it since we think we need it. But what if we definitely do not need it?
Letting go of something you do not need
An example of something that you do not need but you need to release is fear. Now why can we not just let it go? Well, the fact is that a lot of times we are afraid to really let it go for then it would mean we would accept the fear, we cant just push it out of our heads, we have to really accept it. We need to understand where it comes from, we need to embrace it and only then can we let the fear go. And this is hard, for it might be hard to think about something scary in the first place.
Now I have an exercise for letting go of fears and other things you do not need that actually hold you back. First think of nothing as if you are meditating. Then start to bring up thoughts good and bad. With any thoughts you have or any images you see, first just watch them to learn what they mean. Then accept the thought for it is a part of yourself. Accept it as it is! And then let the thought go.
Remember that you can do this with everything. Even with yourself, try to look at yourself or others and embrace it in the same way. It helps.
