A thing I
have been busy with is thinking of a product for our school business. The
assignment is to build a thriving company in teams of 6 students. The first
step: thinking of a product is awesome and very hard at the same time. We have
the superpower of creating anything we want in the time of a year. But we also
need to choose something from everything. That is a lot of choice. And being in
a team makes this progress even harder but also a really good training.
Doing it on your own
When you
think of a product on your own you have a few choices (like always). You can
spot a problem in society and solve it. Or there is a choice that I prefer,
which is thinking of some of your values and building a product out of it. This
product does not have to be something you have to sell, it might also be a
mission you want to accomplish. With this method you are sure you are working
towards your own values. And thus you are shaping your own world.
In a team
When you
are in a team you will have to choose a product that fits with all of your
values. This can quickly turn into a very basic product because everyone has
such different values. If you do not want to start your own project on your own
I would have almost recommended you to think of a product of your own values
and then start looking for a product. But in a team it really helps you to get
to know your team better and start grinding your rough edges.
What I
mean with the last is that it is said that there is always a certain point in
time where groups get in a fight. With thinking of a product you are
essentially already fighting for your values. If you manage this process right
(if you let everyone say what they want), you will be able to quickly move
through this fighting stage into the teambuilding stage (thus grinding).
